Chancellor Hill of ACCS Visits Drake State
The J.F. Drake State campus was very busy on Thursday January 19, 2012, and so was Dr. Freida Hill, as she made her first official visit to the campus. Dr. Hill has been in the area before, and was present at the ribbon cutting for the Downtown Site, but this was her first official visit.
Dr. Freida Hill has been Chancellor of the Alabama Community College System since 2009 and manages the 22 community colleges, 4 technical colleges, and Athens State University that make up the System. She is the first woman to hold the permanent position. Her background is in education in Georgia, and she is the product of the Tennessee Community College System.
Dr. Hill began her day with a breakfast attended by local officials, Drake State supporters, and a few outstanding Drake State graduates. At breakfast, the graduates briefly discussed their time at Drake State and how it influenced their current lives. The graduates in attendance included Neoka Ivey, Nursing graduate and current Drake State employee; Desiree Galloway, Office Systems graduate; Ron Crittendon, Industrial Electronics graduate; Doug Hilton, Electrical Engineering graduate and current Welding student; and Roy Foreman, Electrical Engineering graduate.
Dr. Hill continued her visit with a tour of the Drake State campus, a luncheon at the Von Braun Center for the Annual Chamber of Commerce Meeting, and a meeting with the faculty and staff of Drake State. Her day was concluded by a lively meeting with a few Drake State students. We look forward to Dr. Hill's next visit!
