Drake State Celebrates Community College Month
(Huntsville, Alabama) – April is Community College Awareness Month and Drake State has a full month’s worth of activities for both its students and the community.
Honor’s Day is schedule for Wednesday, April 1st from 1:00pm-2:30pm in the Cafetorium on campus. This day is set aside to recognize students for their academic achievements.
Career Week is being Celebrated Monday, April 13th - Thursday, April16th. The week long event features workshops and presentations to assist students as they prepare for graduation and entrance into the workforce.
Monday: Resume Workshop 10 am – 11:30 am
Tuesday: Mock Interviews sponsored by IAAP 10 am – 11:30 am
Wednesday: Professional Wear Fashion Show 10 am – 11:30 am
Thursday: Career Fair 10 am – 2:00 pm
Nurses Appreciation Days are scheduled for Tuesday, April 21st and Wednesday, April 22nd. These two days provide an opportunity for the nursing program to utilize their educational experience by providing services to the community and allowing the community to meet the future member’s of area doctor’s office staffs and hospital personnel. The Public is encouraged to participate. All activities will take place near the Nursing Building (Building G) and the Cafetorium on the North side of campus.
Tuesday: Red Cross Blood Drive 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
Wednesday: Health Fair and Employer Expo 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Each semester the college’s President, Dr. Helen McAlpine, meets with students on campus to hear their thoughts and share their experiences from their time at Drake State. This activity assists the President and her staff with addressing the desires of the student both academically as well as providing extra curricular activities. The President’s Meetings with Students are being held Tuesday, April 21st at 10:30 am or 5:00 pm and Wednesday, April 22 at 10:30 am.
Members of Drake State’s All-Alabama Academic Team will attend the Annual All-Alabama Academic Ceremonies in Montgomery, Thursday, April 23rd and Friday, April 24th to receive official recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.
Early Summer Registration begins April 20.
The month’s celebration culminates with the campus-wide Spring Fling event on Thursday, April 30. Spring Fling is an annual event featuring a cook out, outdoor activities and fun for all ages. This is an opportunity for the staff to show it’s appreciate to the student body for their hard work over the course of the semester and to allow potential students to experience the family atmosphere which makes Drake State the warm and welcoming place to study.
