Grainger Industrial Supplies $10,000 in Scholarships
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 20, 2010
Grainger Industrial Supplies has provided four Drake State students with scholarships totaling $10,000. The recipients were selected based on a demonstrated financial need and a desire to pursue a certificate or degree in a technical or industrial trade. The company’s goal for providing the scholarships is to help train the next generation workforce.
As a leading distributor of industrial supplies, Grainger is committed to helping stem the growing shortage of skilled workers while supporting the increasing technical demands of today’s manufacturing workplace. The pool of tradesmen entering construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repair, welding and other skilled labor-oriented industries is dwindling; causing a shortfall in the labor market that will reach epidemic proportions as the baby boomers retire. According to a National Association of Manufacturers report, 80 percent of manufacturers are struggling to serve customers because they do not have enough qualified workers.
The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarship program awards financial assistance for tuition and books to second-year students earning their associates degree or certificate in an industrial trade. At Drake State, those programs include: Industrial Electronics Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, Graphics Engineering, Heating and Air Conditioning Technology and Automotive Technology.
The first students selected to receive the scholarships from Drake State are: Jairus Morrow, Industrial Electronics Technology; Austin Passwater, Automotive Technology; Elijah Baker, Industrial Electronics Technology and Zachary Smith, Automotive Technology.
