Karl
Henry, Chair of the Engineering Technology Program at Drake State, has
been presented with the Chancellor’s Award as the 2009 Technical Faculty
Member of the Year for the State of Alabama. Each year the Chancellor’s
Office recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of employees of the
two year college system in each of four categories: administration,
support staff, academic faculty and technical faculty. Henry was
nominated by a committee of his peers based on criteria established by
the Chancellor’s Office. The selection panel evaluated each nominee’s
service to the community and students, contributions to program planning
and development as well as personal and professional development.
“We are extremely proud
of Mr. Henry for his accomplishments and are appreciative that the
selection panel officially acknowledged his contributions not only to
Drake State, but to our community and the two year college system,” said
Dr. Helen McAlpine, President of Drake State.
Henry has been employed
at Drake State for sixteen years where he currently teaches industrial
electronics and serves as the division chair for the engineering
technology department. He creates opportunities for students to succeed
by involving himself in regional workforce development activities,
forging relationships for student internships and serving as the faculty
advisor for the Drake State Amateur Radio Club. Henry has been
recognized as an innovator in his field having received national
recognition for a research project in the area of Field Programmable
Gateway Arrays (FPGAs). Henry also generously donates his time and
professional expertise to non-profits and schools. |
